I'm sick and tired of people saying that fan character OCs aren't really "original" characters. I've been seeing this a lot around sites like Quizilla, and here. Let's face it: Whether you have an original fiction, RP, or fan character, they're all the same. They were created and thought out by many individuals who strive to make their characters different, unique, and more importantly, original. And people have no right saying that making characters for your favorite fandom, is insulting to the creators. They're not them, and they wouldn't know either. Also, how would that be insulting if fans are only showing their love for their favorite fandoms by writing fanfiction, and drawing fanart with their OCs? It's only the fans showing their love and appreciation. How about the Soul Calibur series? They actually encourage you to make your own original fighter, and they added a variety of armor parts, and great customization to suit anyone's preferred tastes. And don't get me started on freedom of expression and creativity. Everyone is entitled to create whatever they please. Fanfiction, fanart, OCs, ect. Oh, and they also have the bloody nerve to tell people what they should be doing. Like writing "original stories, and drawing original fiction characters". Well, no one is obviously going to conform to that. Sorry, but it's the sad truth. No one cares what you think, so lay off. On a side note: For the last friggin' time, ALL OCS AREN'T MARY-SUES/GARY-STUS! Stop stereotyping already. Please. I apologize if I'm sounding a bit angry, but this has been pissing me off for years now, and I felt that I should take a stand to stick up for my opinions and beliefs. And since no one (I think) has made a stamp like this, I just thought it needed to be done. Badly. Anyone who feels the same or whatever may use this. I wish I could.

EDIT: Uploaded a newer version, cause I thought the other one wasn't that specific.

I don't like yaoi or yuri, so I must be a homophobe and hate gays/lesbians.
I have a fan character, so I must be an annoying Mary-sue. Choose your sterotype.

If my life goes as I hope, and I create my group of superheroes and take them to official cartoons and stuff, I would love to see OCs of the series. =D

I agree that OC's for fandom are fine. :) Making a pokemon trainer would probably be a lot of fun! You get to decide their look, place they are from, starter pokemon, etc. With a fandom like that, it's pretty easy to be original, I think.

I think where people really have a problem with it is when they make them too perfect or when they create an 'original character' by using a character from the fandom and changing a small detail such as their hair color. That's not really original.

It's also frustrating when they change a fandom character's personality drastically so that they will be in love with their OC. Logical progression is your friend, if you must do that.

Pokemon is a fun fandom to do. I had an OC for that fandom, and it took place in the Hoen(sp?) region, even though Johto was my all time favorite, but she was from Johto. XD

I can see where people are coming from with the whole Mary-Sue/Gary-Stu thing. They are drastic in numbers in popular fandoms, such as Naruto, Final Fantasy VII, VIII, and all the Tetsuya Nomura ones, Kingdom Hearts, Bleach, Harry Potter, ect. Hell, I've seen Mary-Sues in the Yu-Gi-Oh! fandom! I was really bothered by it too. But it was on Quizilla. Fanfiction.net had some really good YGO OCs. I don't like re-colors either. Now those characters are the epitome of unoriginal. Taking Sonic or Naruto screencaps and changing the colors. The nerve of them. >__>

I hate when they make canon characters out-of-character as well. Once again, this has happened in the YGO fandom on Quizilla, and Seto Kaiba was the victim. I've seen better Seto/OC stories on FF.net of course. And one of them really won me over. Seto and the OC didn't kiss at the end of the story! Hooray for not being cliche!

Same here. If I made an original fiction of my own, it'd be really flattering if the fans made their characters for it. :3

Yeah in fact if I ever do make my heroes into a cartoon series I would come back here to dA just to look at how well people do with making OCs for it and stuff.
